Boston

I wish I could write something inspiring and eloquent about what happened yesterday at the Boston Marathon.

I can’t.

I’ve been watching and reading the news all day, but finally had to stop. The blood-splattered concrete and torn limbs were too much. I know I’ve only been in Boston for two years, but I feel like my home has been attacked. I’ve walked down Boylston so many times. Only last year, I was right at the finish line, cheering on the runners with everyone else. My friends were thinking of spectating this year, but didn’t go. We were lucky. Not everyone was.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the bombing. The injured. The deceased. Their families. The witnesses, crowds, and runners. The brave first responders, volunteers, and their families. I know that they’ll be in my thoughts tonight, and for many, many nights to come.

If there’s anything I’ve learned from my time here, it’s that Boston is a stubborn city. We’ll help each other through this, and come out as strong and resilient as ever.

Thank you to those who messaged me, asking if my friends and I were safe! I was at work at the time, far away from Copley Square and the bombs.

  1. Glad no one you know was injured.

I heard about Boston that afternoon; my mom told me. I was shocked. Honestly, I was. When 9/11 happened, I was numb, but this time I was really shocked.

I asked if anyone died. Three. Hundreds injured.

I never really thought there’d be another bombing in America. Boy, was I naive. I hear they’re preparing to find one in New York, apparently at another marathon. And all I want to know this whole time is: why?

    • I think everyone wants to know why this happened. I’ve heard that cities besides Boston are tightening up security, including Los Angeles all the way in the west and London, as the London Marathon is coming up.

I was really shocked too. I heard about it when it had just happened, as my friends kept hearing sirens and rumors of bloody dismemberment spread through the city. Worse was when photographs confirmed that all my morbid imaginings were, in fact, really happening.

  2. Very unfortunate that this is happening in our day. What I hope and pray for is that this is the last time that this type of thing is going to happen. We have already had two very recent shootings. We do not need any more of this senseless violence. Terrorism or not, this needs to stop. Now.

  3. This has really bothered me. I follow you, but didn’t realize you were (are) from Boston. I am so very glad now that you weren’t hurt. Here goes that 7 connection thing and it is only 1 connection deep!
I am praying for all of them.
