I get outclassed by a school dance

Major nostalgia happened last weekend.

Northeastern, every winter, holds a little event called Snowball. Formal attire. Dinner and a dance. The works. My suitemate and I, looking for an excuse to get “all dolled up,” decided to check it out.

And it’s basically a classy prom.

The event took place in the Westin Copley Hotel, which is an absurdly swanky hotel attached to the equally swanky Prudential Center. Walking there, then, took us past a number of stores made everyone feel a little more broke:

At the hotel, we were served a three-course meal. A meal whose menu looked like this:

The meal was indeed delicious, though. And classy. We even got tiny forks, knives, and spoons to eat our dessert with!

Afterwards came the less classy part of the night: the dance. A bunch of sweaty college kids crammed on a tiny floor shakin’ it up with some DJ from Europe. It was fun! Well, except for this part:

The crowd was bombed with fistfuls of glowsticks. Which is fun, until you get hit in the eye. One girl in my group got a direct hit, which hurt her so badly she fell to the floor.

Meanwhile, I was glowstick hoarding:

And my friends and I thus had a very lovely night. In conclusion? I would do it again! It was a definite step up from my high school prom, where we had self-serve buffets, not waiters, and a smaller dance floor for even more kids. (My graduating class was over 1,000 kids.) And I did note that Snowball had a distinct lack of slow songs– so there was none of that awkwardly-standing-around-while-everyone-around-you-is-making-out deal. Wow. Forever alone for me.

But it was fun anyway!

  1. Are you saying that our prom wasn’t classy? As one of the members of the prom committee, I take great offense to that…

Just kidding. I’m over that crap. So glad I don’t have to deal with it again.

    • I was actually pretty impressed by our prom!… it’s just that this dance was even more impressive. Haha I remember the days of class cabinet! It sucked. I’m actually glad I got kicked out after sophomore year! I can’t even imagine having to deal with that senior year.

  2. Oh, good. I’m so glad that I’m not the only one who takes great pride in getting to eat dessert with little spoons and forks! XD

Looks like you all had a blast! At the community college, it’s more of a free-for-all as far as social events go. . .

    • Hahahaha I can only imagine! My prom was definitely a free-for-all on the dance floor. Luckily, I have a group of friends who are all more than willing to stick to the side than venture into that sweaty mess. Babies were being made in there. (Seriously though, it happened!)

  3. i had never heard of any of those nice clothing companies, so I looked them up, went to Tiffany and Co., went to women’s watches, scrolled over one and saw that it said $28,900. I then thought, “No, there’s no way, that’s probably the serial number or something.” Then I blinked, looked closer and said “HOLY BALLS!!” I mean, 28,000 dollars for a stupid watch!!! I would not pay that if I was a BILLIONAIRE!! Well, maybe be if it was a really nice watch, or a custom made, Eiichiro Oda signed the box, One Piece watch. Then, yeah, I would pay that crazy price.

    • The only time I would buy a watch that expensive would be, hmm… if it was a custom-fitted, One Piece watch (as you said) that Eiichiro Oda designed and signed himself and also he would give it to me in person so I could tell him how awesome he is. Then it would be totally worth it!
