My cousins

My cousins share an interesting relationship.

This relationship is best summarized by the phrase, “You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family.”

Because my cousins and I are as different as night and day. Black and white. Apples and oranges. Link and Ganondorf.

Now that I’m done hurling cliches, let me show you what I mean. Here are my cousins:

Put us all in a room together, and it’s bound to be chaos. My cousins and I have a history of harassing each other, since day 1…

…all the way to the present day.

Sometimes I wonder how we’ve managed to coexist this long.

Then, however, I remember that they’re my cousins. They’re the ones you grow up with. Your first friends as kids. They’re the only ones who can truly understand the ins and outs of your crazy family. We’ve suffered some trials and tribulations over the years:

And so my cousins and I are all friends. Even though we’re getting older– going to college, getting jobs, not being able to see each other as often– when we do get together, everything’s the same. My favorite family gatherings are always the ones with my cousins. My family may be huge, and loud, and crazy, and chaotic, but I can’t imagine it any other way.

Although I could do with a little less harassment.

      • My mum’s song often succeeded to get us up… Of course, back then we weren’t allowed to stay up late, anyway…

It was annoying though! Especially hearing the same song all the time.

        • My cousins have had varying degrees of success, for sure. Sometimes we’d get up! Most of my relatives sleep like logs, however. No amount of annoyance can get us to wake up in the morning. 😉

  1. Oh my gosh! “Look how much I’ve drunk…” that’s just criminally funny. We all have the family drunk. Unfortunately, save one little twig of a branch on the family tree, I can’t even brag about a relationship with my cousins.

Glad you’re back from your hiatus! 🙂

    • Thanks! I’m glad to be back too! Only two more ochem exams to go and I’m DONE!
Every family is different. While I’m buds with many of my cousins, I have tons and tons of relatives I haven’t even met. A lot of them are actually still in Vietnam!

  2. If there was one website that you don’t want your cousins to see, then…

I wish I had close cousins. I only have two and live 2 hours away. Rarely see them. Well, twice a year.

    • Hahaha I’m pretty sure all of my cousins have seen this post by now.
I actually don’t live that close to my cousins either! The closest to me live about 1 and a half hours away. You’re right, though– I saw my cousins a lot when I was little, which is why we’re close now.
